Maintaining your vehicle at home is a satisfying way to keep your motoring costs down. With the right knowledge and products even someone who isn't very mechanically inclined can take care of many of the smaller issues in everyday driving. Sometimes, however, car issues can be too specialized or complex for the average motorist to take care of by themselves and it becomes time to take your car to the pros. Below you'll find three major warning signs that you need to get to a mechanic ASAP, as well as some of the potential causes behind them.
Engine and Drivetrain ProblemsLet's start at the beginning. If your car won't even turn over and start up, then the rest of the problems on this list won't come into play. The simplest cause of this issue is a dead battery, which you can remedy with jumper cables, and the instructions that come printed on their packaging. If jumping the car doesn't work, you may have a larger problem with your ignition system. It's advisable to take your car into the shop at this point because finding the root of the problem will likely involve removing a few parts from your engine. Whether it's dead spark plugs or electrical problems, it's better to have it dealt with by a professional. Likewise, engine surging where the revs rise and fall can mean a problem with your fuel injectors, which are fairly deep within your motor. It's unwise to drive around with a surging engine, as this burns more gas and can cause unintended acceleration. Drivetrain issues are another major issue requiring professional attention. Everybody fears the dreaded transmission repairs, so if certain gears won't engage or they shift at the wrong times you should definitely take your car to the qualified mechanics here at RG Motorworks.
Vibration While DrivingThis issue can be caused by damaged drivetrain components, but can also stem from misaligned wheels or unbalanced or flat tires. If you feel any vibration or shuddering as you drive along, you should get to a mechanic as soon as you can. At its worst, this issue can lessen your control over the car, potentially causing accidents. This will also wear out your tires more quickly than if everything was straight and true. Unwanted vibrations put stress on important (and costly) components like suspension and brakes while decreasing gas mileage, so it's smart to take your car in as soon as these issues develop.
Poor Braking PerformanceYour brakes are vital to keeping you safe on the road and should definitely be cared for by a professional, unless you're absolutely sure you know what you're doing. Common signs of issues with your car's braking system include squeaking or squealing when the brakes are applied, or the brakes feeling spongy and failing to slow your vehicle properly. Squealing brakes are caused by the brake pads wearing through the pad surface to the metal underneath. At this point the metal behind your brake pad is coming into contact with the brake rotor. This can be disastrous and produce unwanted heat, reduced stopping power, and cause you to have to buy new rotors as well as the relatively cheap pads. Spongey and weak brakes can mean there's a problem with your master cylinder, which converts the mechanical pressure of you pressing the pedal into hydraulic pressure to apply the brakes. In either case, it's best to have your brakes seen to by the professional mechanics here at RG Motorworks.
This place is awesome!!! So glad I finally found a reputable, honest, and fair mechanic in Las Vegas!!! I highly recommend this place if you have any work needed on your car. After months of bringing my car back and forth from the dealership, because they "couldn't figure out" what the problem was, this guy figured out the problem within an hour...thanks RG Motorworks!!! Just went back for some more work on both our cars and again, very satisfied.
Still drove out from the west side to come here for my maintenance needs. Honesty, efficiency and reasonable prices are what have kept me coming. Plus Tita's fresh gourmet coffee.
I was referred here by Hector who now works here. My window regulator went out. Price of $443 including tax and labor was fair but you always pay more for Mercedes Benz. I dropped it off day before and they had it ready by noon. I'll be going back.
Really great bunch of mechanics. The receptionist is super nice as well. I own a Mercedes and a Jaguar. This is my place to go for any kind of work needed on my vehicles. I can assure you that you will get great deal and an honest evaluation on your car. Give these guys a try. Thanks RG Motorworks.
RG Motorworks is the only place I trust with my Beamer and SUV, never did I have to come back for a back job. Not like dealerships or other shops that will squeeze you for every penny that you've got. Friendly people and great mechanics. I will never go to another shop again. Keep up the great work and more power to the business. I highly recommend this place to all car owners out there!
Feel very fortunate to have found RG Motorworks to do the regular annual required services to our 12 years old Mercedes Benz . Having moved from the east coast where there are plenty of authorized and reliable Benz service shops we were worried what to expect from our few choices in town. Everyone in RG MotorWorks was very professional and helpful, services on my car were performed as those I would expect from Benz dealership mechanics, and as someone else mentioned, without any surprises on your bill . That sweet lady in the office even arranged for our car service when she found out we would need a vehicle while they are working on our car. The best part was that she extended a special shop discount to us with the car rental place. Thank you RG Motorworks and we will definitely see you again on our next service !
I was looking for someone trusted and reliable when it comes to my car care. Found this spot through a family friend so I gave it a shot, everyone is welcoming especially Nanay/Tita. She's very accomodating and nice. I had to leave my car overnight to make sure everything will be taken care of, picked up my car the next day and very pleased with the result. My car was running smooth, and some minor problems got all fixed. And now, I've been coming here too for my oil change and other vehicle maintenance. I would recommend this spot, if you want a trust-worthy crews and QUALITY service!
This company was referred to me by my friend. They deserve my 5 star rating. The first visit was for my Suburban. They rebuilt the transmission and the service was excellent! Second visit was recently, Ryan (mechanic) fixed my Ford Econoline service van, replaced the cylinder head. Again A+ service. Third visit was for my another two service vans, two Ford Transit 250. He did oil changes and checked the brakes. I just walked in, I always forgot to set an appointment, but still they helped me the same day. They are professional and honest. Excellent customer service! 5 stars is not enough!
I'm a transplanted New Yorker fairly new to the area but my son has been here a while and emphatically recommended RG. My experience here was really good. This appears to be a nice family operation. I think that's mom at the front desk. Sweet sweet lady. Anyway, our repair was a replacement a/c condenser for our baby; an 08 Eclipse GT. Reasonably priced and expertly done. Holding up well.
Thanks to my neighbor for recommending them! Excellent service and friendly staff! RG Motorworks diagnosed an ongoing problem with my car and was able to fix it along with other work that it has been needing for quite some time. Prices were reasonable and the work was completed within a couple of days. I'm so glad I went to them.
